Converge heads to London to showcase finalists to investors
Scotland is open for big business with fast-growth businesses in Scotland attracting record levels of investment – over half a billion pounds of venture capital in the first half of 2022.
Against this backdrop and with no shortage of entrepreneurial potential in sectors such as tech and the life sciences, Converge took six fledgling Scottish start-ups to London on Thursday 13 October to ‘Spotlight on Innovation’ a special investor-only event organised in partnership with Scottish Development International.
Attended by UK-wide investors and taking place at Scotland House in central London, the event featured live, 1-minute pitches from six finalists from this year’s Converge Awards, a rigorous pan-Scottish business competition that has supported the creation of over 330 companies since its launch in 2011. Drawn from sectors including med-tech, engineering and the life sciences, the six pitching companies exemplify the very best of innovation and entrepreneurship emerging from Scotland’s universities.
As well as networking, the evening included an address from Converge alumnus, Dr Dave Hughes, founder and CEO of Novosound, a University of the West of Scotland spin-out pioneering groundbreaking techniques for the mass-manufacture of printable ultrasound sensors.
Claudia Cavalluzzo, Executive Director at Converge opened proceedings saying
“Scotland is blessed with world-class research universities that are developing ground-breaking products and processes particularly in sectors such as the life sciences and technology. It also has a strong and connected environment which gives aspiring entrepreneurs and founders such as those that you will hear tonight, the platforms and opportunities they need to help their business ideas fly. In short, our entrepreneurial pipeline has never been in better health and it’s no surprise that Scotland’s fast-growth businesses are attracting record levels of investment”
Scotland is open for big business, and we hope that in bringing some of our most exciting emerging businesses to your door, you will come and take a longer look”
